Adaptor
In Academia: School Simulator, the player takes the role of the principal of a school, and manages the schools affairs. Principal responsibilities include building classrooms, and the different facilities required for the school to thrive.
Adaptor started out as a 2 day project for Ludum Dare. I can’t remember what the theme was but it was ‘panic’ or something. My idea was to induce panic in the player by changing the controls depending on the tile the player is currently stepping on. The player controls the character using the WASD and arrow keys, and space bar to jump. Certain tiles will reverse the direction of the keys, i.e. pressing the right arrow key will move the player right instead of left. The goal for the player was to reach the teleporter at the end of each level before the eye does.
Another thing I was thinking of while making the game was how the player would ‘flow’ through the level. I play the piano a little bit and thought that the colors of the tiles would be similar to notes on a piano sheet. As the player becomes more aware of how certain tiles are grouped together, the easier it is for them to ‘sight read’ the level.
